Affiliate Disclosure
How Softoto makes money, and how that does – and does not – affect what we publish.
1. The Short Version
Some links on Softoto are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, we may earn a small commission – at no extra cost to you.
This never costs you more, never changes our opinion, and never affects which software we list or how we rate it.
Softoto is a trading name of Eurl Nitrosoft LTD, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16294173), with its registered office at 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom.
We publish this disclosure because we believe you have a right to know how a website you read makes money. It is also required by consumer protection and advertising rules, including the guidance of the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), and the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
2. What Is an Affiliate Link?
An affiliate link is a normal link with a tracking code attached. If you click it and then make a purchase on the destination website, that website tells us you came from Softoto, and pays us a small percentage of the sale as a referral commission.
In practice:
- You click a link on our page.
- You land on the developer's or retailer's own website.
- If you choose to buy something there, they may pay us a commission.
- You pay exactly the same price as you would have without clicking our link.
We have no involvement in the transaction itself. The purchase, payment, delivery, support, and refund are entirely between you and that third-party seller, governed by their terms – not ours.
3. Where Affiliate Links Appear
Where we use affiliate links, they may appear in:
- Blog articles – reviews, comparisons, buying guides, and how-to content.
- Software Library pages – where a paid or premium version of a listed application exists.
- Links to paid upgrades – for example, the Pro edition of an application whose free version we list.
We aim to label affiliate links clearly on the page where they appear, in addition to this site-wide disclosure.
4. Free Software Stays Free
Our Software Library is free, and downloading from it earns us nothing.
To be completely clear:
- We do not charge for any download.
- We do not earn a commission when you download free software.
- We do not bundle installers, wrappers, or "download managers" with anything.
- We do not put free software behind a paywall, a survey, or a sign-up.
Where an application has both a free and a paid edition, we will always tell you what the free version does, rather than pushing you toward the paid one.
5. Editorial Independence
This is the part that matters most to us.
- Developers cannot pay to be listed in our Library.
- Developers cannot pay for a positive review, a higher score, or a better ranking.
- The existence of an affiliate programme does not determine whether we cover a product.
- We recommend software we would recommend anyway – including software that pays us nothing.
- If a product is bad, we will say so, affiliate relationship or not.
Our editorial judgement is described further in our Disclaimer. Inclusion in our Library is never an endorsement, certification, or guarantee of quality or safety.
6. There Is No Cost to You
Affiliate commissions are paid by the seller out of their own margin. Using our link never increases the price you pay. In some cases, an affiliate link may actually give you access to a discount or promotional price that is not otherwise available.
You are, of course, entirely free to ignore our links and go directly to any developer's website. Doing so costs you nothing and costs us only the commission – and we would rather you buy the right software than the profitable one.
7. Cookies & Your Privacy
Affiliate links generally work by setting a cookie in your browser, which allows the seller to recognise that you arrived from Softoto. This cookie is set by the third-party seller or affiliate network, not by us, and is governed by their privacy policy.
We do not receive your name, email address, payment details, or any other personal information about your purchase. We typically receive only anonymous, aggregated statistics – for example, that a sale occurred.
For more detail on cookies, see our Cookies Policy and Privacy Policy.
8. Future E-Commerce
Softoto currently operates a free Software Library and an independent Blog. We do not sell software licenses or process payments ourselves.
If and when we introduce a Store, this disclosure will be updated to explain clearly which products we sell directly and which are affiliate referrals, so the distinction is never blurred.
