The Tor Project, Inc.

The Tor Project is a 501(c)(3) non-profit founded on 22 December 2006 by Roger Dingledine, Nick Mathewson and five others, based in Winchester, Massachusetts. It maintains the Tor anonymity network, which grew out of onion routing research at the US Naval Research Laboratory in the 1990s. Tor Browser, a hardened Firefox build that routes traffic through that network, began development in 2008.
